A disturbing incident of abduction and targeted humiliation has rocked Sherpur Upazila in Bogra, leading to the arrest of one individual. What began as a trivial dispute over a badminton match escalated into a harrowing ordeal for a 13-year-old madrasa student, involving physical assault and a forced head-shaving.
The Incident and Allegations
On the afternoon of 6 March, Mahmudul Hasan, a Year 7 student at the local Sherpur Shahidiya Aliya Kamil Madrasa, was reportedly intercepted by a group of youths in the Taltala area. The confrontation stemmed from a prior disagreement during a game of badminton.
The victim was forcibly taken to a residence in the Khandakartola neighbourhood belonging to one Shamsul Haque Munsi. According to the case filings, the gang subjected the teenager to a series of degrading acts. He was reportedly stripped, beaten, and had his head forcibly shaved—a tactic often used in regional disputes to inflict maximum public shame.
Following the ordeal, the young boy required medical attention for his injuries and the psychological trauma sustained during the confinement.
Legal Action and Arrests
The victim’s father, Zohurul Islam, officially lodged a complaint with the Sherpur Police Station on Wednesday, 11 March. Acting swiftly on the First Information Report (FIR), police conducted a raid and apprehended one of the primary suspects.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ibrahim Ali confirmed the details of the case, stating that six individuals have been named in the legal proceedings. The arrested youth has been identified as Motaleb Alvi, a 19-year-old who resides in Khandakartola but hails from Sirajganj. Alvi, who reportedly operates an online clothing business, was sent to Bogra District Jail following a court appearance on Wednesday afternoon.
Ongoing Investigation
The police are currently treating this as a premeditated act of cruelty. While one suspect is in custody, five others remain at large. OC Ibrahim Ali assured the public that “raids are ongoing to apprehend the remaining fugitives” and that the authorities are committed to ensuring justice for the young student.
The incident has sparked concern among local residents regarding the rising trend of “youth gang” culture and the disproportionate violence stemming from minor sporting disputes.
