A somber atmosphere has descended upon the village of Boro Udaspur in Sreepur Upazila, Magura, following the discovery of the body of a 24-year-old woman in a local crop field. The Discovery of the Crime
On Wednesday morning, at approximately 11:20 AM, a local farmer named Jamal Sheikh stumbled upon a harrowing scene while heading to tend to his crops. Amidst the greenery, he discovered the partially clothed body of a woman with a rope tightly wound around her neck.
Startled by the discovery, villagers alerted the victim’s father, Hai Joardar, who tragically confirmed the identity of the deceased as his daughter. Local law enforcement was promptly notified, and the body was recovered and transported to the morgue for a post-mortem examination.
A Premeditated Act
Magura Superintendent of Police (SP), Molla Azad Hossain, addressed the media at a press conference held at his office on Wednesday evening. He revealed that the preliminary investigation points toward a premeditated homicide.
According to police findings, Lima had arrived at her father’s house on March 30 for a brief visit. Her husband, Sujan, a 25-year-old resident of Hat Gopalpur in the neighbouring Jhenaidah district, allegedly travelled to the village with the specific intent of ending her life. On Tuesday evening, Sujan reportedly telephoned Lima and coerced her into meeting him at a secluded location under the cover of darkness.
Confession and Motive
During initial interrogation, Sujan Sheikh reportedly confessed to the murder. The couple had married for love approximately seven years ago and shared two children. However, the veneer of a happy union had long since faded.
“Initial questioning suggests that the killing was sparked by deep-seated domestic disputes. The suspect has admitted to strangling his wife due to ongoing marital discord,” stated SP Molla Azad Hossain.
Police believe the “family feud” had reached a breaking point, leading Sujan to orchestrate the brutal act. He is currently in custody, and the process of filing a formal case against him is underway before he is produced in court.
