A tragic road accident in Golachipa upazila of Patuakhali district has claimed the life of a local contractor, while his companion remains critically injured and has been transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
The deceased, Mizanur Rahman Mizu, son of Md Rafiqul Haolader of the Patuakhali C&B Road area, was killed after a collision with a goods-laden lorry on Saturday night (23 May) in Charakhali village under Golachipa Sadar Union. His close friend, Md Sagar Mirdha, son of A. Latif Mirdha from the same locality, sustained serious injuries in the same incident.
According to family members and local accounts, the two friends were travelling from Patuakhali town to attend the funeral prayer of Sagar’s brother-in-law, Md Habibur Rahman, in Charakhali village. The accident occurred at around 5:30 pm in the northern part of Charakhali when their motorbike or transport came into contact with a heavy lorry carrying goods. The impact threw both men onto the roadside, leaving them severely injured.
Locals quickly rescued the injured pair and rushed them to Golachipa Upazila Health Complex. Following primary treatment, both were referred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal due to the severity of their conditions. Despite medical efforts, Mizanur Rahman Mizu died at approximately 11:30 pm while undergoing treatment. His companion Sagar Mirdha’s condition deteriorated further, prompting doctors to send him to Dhaka for specialised care.
Police confirmed the incident and said they had received reports of the fatal collision. Golachipa Police Station (Investigation Officer) Sub-Inspector Zilon Sikder stated that they were aware of the death and injury. He added that since the death occurred at Barishal Medical College Hospital and the deceased was a resident of Patuakhali town, police action would depend on whether the family submits a formal written complaint.
