Renowned rock pioneers Warfaze have entered a remarkable new chapter in their four-decade-long legacy. Fresh from securing the prestigious Ekushey Padak—marking the first time a musical band has received Bangladesh’s second-highest civilian honour—and signing a landmark global brand endorsement with Zippo, the group has officially broken a 14-year studio silence. The band has unveiled “Girgiti”, the highly anticipated first single from their forthcoming eighth studio album.
The track, co-written by Shams Mansoor Ghani and K.M. Imranul Haque Ritul with visual curation by Upstudio Production House, was launched at an exclusive gathering in a Dhaka club. In a significant cinematic crossover, “Girgiti” will also function as the title song for director Sourav Kundu’s upcoming feature film of the same name. The film, starring ABM Sumon and Purnima Brishti, initially began production in 2019 but encountered numerous administrative delays. At the launch event, the production team confirmed that filming is finally set to resume, with a release schedule to be announced shortly.
Speaking on the creative pressure of the track, Warfaze vocalist Palash Noor remarked:
“To us, music has always been about storytelling. Crafting a song for a motion picture presents a unique set of challenges because you are adhering to an external visual direction. There was a moment during production where I felt overwhelmed, but the unwavering support of my bandmates guided me through. Hearing the final master validated every ounce of effort; I view this as the pinnacle of my career to date.”
True to tradition, the title of the upcoming studio album has not yet been disclosed. Band leader and veteran drummer Sheikh Monirul Alam Tipu explained that Warfaze historically refrains from naming an album until every track is fully recorded and finalised through a democratic band vote.
Beyond their new recorded material, the heavy metal stalwarts are celebrating another monumental milestone: their maiden concert tour of the United Kingdom. Marking the first time the band will perform on British soil in their 42-year history, the tour will span several UK cities. A key highlight of the itinerary includes a headline performance on 19 July at The Royal Regency in London for the “Bangla Fest & Award UK”.
The band is scheduled to depart Dhaka immediately for the British capital, returning on 23 July. There will be little respite for the musicians upon their return to Bangladesh, as they are booked to headline a major solo concert on 2 August at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka. Entitled “Playlist Tribute to Originals”, the event is organised by Brandmyth and Mars & Co., and will feature a highly anticipated segment paying homage to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
