The first incident came to light late at night on Sunday, 23 August. Local residents recovered the lifeless bodies of two children from a pond in Madhya Nakshi village, located under the Kolaspur union of the upazila, at around 2:30 am. The deceased children were identified as seven-year-old Rohan, son of Hazrat Ali, and six-year-old Ismail, son of Ebadul Islam, both residents of the same village. According to local accounts, the two boys had stepped out of their homes around midday on Sunday and subsequently went missing. Distraught family members searched extensively across various locations throughout the day without success. Eventually, late in the night, neighbours spotted the bodies floating in the village pond and brought them ashore, plunging their families into deep mourning.

In separate incidents on the same day, local police recovered the bodies of two women from different areas within the upazila. The deceased women were identified as 15-year-old Kamrun Nahar Shakila, daughter of Kamrul Islam from Tantar village, and 65-year-old Noor Jahan Begum, wife of Abdus Sattar from Nayabil village.

Confirming the developments, Nalitabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashrafuজ্জামান stated that the bodies of the two children have been handed over to their respective families without any formal complications. Meanwhile, legal procedures regarding the other two recovered bodies are currently underway at the police station.

Accidental drownings, particularly involving children in rural ponds and open water bodies, remain a persistent hazard across regional communities, often highlighting the critical need for heightened vigilance and preventative community safety measures.
