Terror in the Airport Area: Shocking Allegation of Expat Gold Looting

Staff Reporter
A shocking incident has come to light regarding the snatching of approximately 200 grams of gold ornaments and valuables from an expatriate passenger in front of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital. Serious allegations have been raised linking several local leaders of the BNP and Chhatra Dal directly to this robbery. The accused individuals hold prominent positions within the Airport Thana branch of the BNP and Chhatra Dal.
According to information from a confidential law enforcement report on Friday (August 29), the incident took place between approximately 8:30 PM and 9:00 PM on Thursday (August 28) near the arrival and departure lanes of the airport. Right as the victim, a recent returnee from abroad, was leaving the airport terminal to head toward his destination, members of the syndicate cunningly surrounded him and looted around 200 grams of gold by instilling fear.
According to multiple responsible sources, the primary patrons and operators of this syndicate include Airport Thana Organizational Ward BNP President Rouf, Airport Thana Chhatra Dal President Ripon Hossain, General Secretary Al Amin Hossain Shanto, and the same ward’s BNP Organizational Secretary Rubel. The victimized expatriate, Md. Suman, subsequently filed a legal complaint or case at the Airport Police Station specifying the names of the accused in pursuit of personal safety and justice.
Initial investigative reports reveal that expatriates returning to the country fall onto the radar of this syndicate immediately upon landing at the airport. Based on specific intelligence and long-standing complaints from local victims, criminal activities such as extortion, hostage-taking, and robbery under the guise of political affiliations have been steadily rising around the airport roundabout and its surrounding areas. General expatriate and outbound passengers are facing extreme insecurity due to this syndicate fostered under the shelter of influential figures.
Requesting anonymity, multiple local residents and victims expressed outrage, stating that the accused individuals have been creating a reign of terror in the area through the misuse of political power. General passengers arriving at the airport often face harassment but dare not speak out due to fear of attacks or lawsuits. The malicious activities of this syndicate, preying on the hard-earned savings of expatriates, continue to call the overall law and order situation in the airport area into question.
Meanwhile, attempts by the media to contact the accused BNP and Chhatra Dal leaders for comments were met with no immediate response. Responsible sources within law enforcement stated that considering the gravity of the incident, a shadow investigation has been launched, and strict legal action will be taken against those involved upon verifying the authenticity of the allegations and analyzing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
