Another gunman arrested in connection with the killing of Voluntary Party leader Musabbir

The Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch has apprehended Rahim, the gunman allegedly responsible for the murder of Md. Azizur Rahman Musabbir, former General Secretary of the Volunteer Party’s Dhaka North chapter. Authorities also recovered two firearms during the operation.

Rahim was arrested in the early hours of Friday, 23 January, in Narsingdi district. Prior to this, another suspect, Md. Billal, had been taken into custody and placed under remand for questioning.

The tragic incident occurred on 7 January when Musabbir was socialising with friends near West Tezturi Bazar in Tejgaon. After their gathering, he was heading home around 8:00 pm. Approximately ten minutes later, in front of the Ahsanullah Institute, a group of four to five unidentified assailants blocked his path and opened fire. Musabbir was struck multiple times and collapsed to the ground.

Sufian Bepari Masud, who was accompanying Musabbir, attempted to intervene and protect him but was also shot by the attackers. Following the attack, the assailants fled the scene. Local residents promptly transported the victims to the hospital, where doctors pronounced Musabbir dead on arrival. Masud received treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

In response to the attack, Musabbir’s wife, Suraiya Begum, 42, filed a murder case at Tejgaon Police Station on the night of 7 January. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have confirmed that both Rahim and Billal are being interrogated to uncover potential links to other suspects and motives.
