Fatal Clash Over Tree in Nilphamari

A deadly confrontation over the cutting of a tree in Domar municipality, Nilphamari, has claimed the life of 50-year-old Majnu, while two others sustained injuries. The police have detained two individuals in connection with the incident.

The clash occurred on Wednesday morning (11 March) in the Maidan Para area of Domar municipality. Majnu, a resident of Ward No. 5 and son of the late Tafir Uddin, was involved in attempting to fell a dry tree on a disputed plot of land. According to local sources, tensions escalated when opposing parties intervened, leading to a physical confrontation.

Preliminary reports indicate that Majnu, along with Bablu and Nurul Haq Kalu, were attempting to cut the tree when Bilal Hossain and members of his family obstructed them. What began as a verbal disagreement quickly escalated into a chase and then a violent clash. Three people were injured during the altercation. Local residents and family members rushed the injured to Domar Health Complex. Dr Asma, an emergency department physician, confirmed that Majnu was pronounced dead upon arrival, while the two others were referred to a hospital in Rangpur for further treatment.

Majnu’s nephew, Mim, expressed frustration at the delayed response of law enforcement: “We contacted the police and called 999, but they arrived late. Had they reached in time, perhaps this tragic outcome could have been avoided.”

Confirming the incident, Domar Police Superintendent Habibullah stated, “One individual has died in the clash. Upon receiving the information, police immediately arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. The matter is being thoroughly investigated, and legal action will follow.”
