Bangladesh’s left-arm fast bowler Shoriful Islam has been selected to play in the thirteenth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), joining Peshawar Zalmi for the upcoming season. He will be reunited with fellow Bangladeshi pacer Nahid Rana, who was previously signed by the same franchise.
On Monday, Peshawar Zalmi confirmed Shoriful’s direct contract via social media, stating:
“Yellow Storm is even stronger with your arrival! Bangladesh’s express left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam is ready to make a storm in the PSL wearing the yellow jersey.”
At 24 years old, Shoriful is a regular member of Bangladesh’s national team across all three formats. He recently showcased exceptional form playing for Chattogram Royals in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). In the recently concluded January BPL season, he emerged as the leading wicket-taker, claiming 26 wickets at an economy rate of 5.84, setting the record for the highest number of wickets in a single BPL season.
Despite this outstanding performance, Shoriful’s name was not included in the first PSL auction held last month. He later secured his spot with Peshawar Zalmi through a direct contract.
Several other Bangladeshi players were signed during the PSL auction and via direct contracts. Their details are as follows:
| Player Name | Franchise | Contract Type | Purchase Price (PKR) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nahid Rana | Peshawar Zalmi | Auction (Base Price) | 6,000,000 |
| Parvez Hossain Emon | Peshawar Zalmi | Auction (Base Price) | 6,000,000 |
| Rishad Hossain | Rawalpindi Pindi | Auction | Not Disclosed |
| Mustafizur Rahman | Lahore Qalandars | Direct Contract | 64,400,000 |
Nahid Rana and Parvez Hossain Emon were initially unsold in the auction but later joined Peshawar Zalmi at their base prices. Mustafizur Rahman was signed directly by Lahore Qalandars, while Emon will also play for the same team. Rishad Hossain will represent the new franchise Rawalpindi Pindi.
Shoriful’s signing is expected to strengthen Peshawar Zalmi’s bowling attack significantly. Known for his pace, swing, and variations, Shoriful adds both depth and strategic options to the side. PSL fans are eagerly anticipating his performance, especially after his record-breaking BPL season.
With an increasing number of Bangladeshi players participating in PSL, this season promises to be particularly exciting. Shoriful himself expressed his enthusiasm, stating,
“I am thrilled to play in the PSL. I will give my best performance for Peshawar Zalmi and contribute to the team’s success.”
Cricket enthusiasts across Bangladesh are now looking forward to witnessing Shoriful and his compatriots make a significant impact on the international T20 stage.
