The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of thunderstorms and strong winds across eight divisions of the country over the next 24 hours. Authorities have also indicated the possibility of isolated hailstorms in certain areas. Citizens have been advised to remain cautious, particularly in vulnerable districts prone to sudden weather changes.
On Tuesday, 17 March, out of 61 observation stations nationwide, rainfall was recorded in 18 areas, accompanied by gusty winds in several locations. The highest rainfall was observed in Sreemangal, measuring 49 millimetres, followed by Netrokona with 25 millimetres, Dinajpur with 16 millimetres, and Mymensingh with 13 millimetres.

The bulletin explained that an extension of a low-pressure system is currently situated over West Bengal and neighbouring areas, while the seasonal normal low-pressure system persists over the southern Bay of Bengal. These factors are expected to influence weather conditions across the country, causing temporary gusty winds, thunderstorms, and rain in parts of Sylhet, as well as in selected areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, and Chattogram. Isolated hailstorms may also occur. Day and night temperatures nationwide are expected to remain largely unchanged.
The forecast for the coming days is as follows:
| Date | Affected Divisions/Areas | Expected Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| 18 March | Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram, Sylhet | Temporary gusty/strong winds, thunderstorms, rain, possible hail |
| 19 March | Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram | Temporary gusty/strong winds, thunderstorms, rain, possible hail |
| 20 March | Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram | Temporary gusty/strong winds, thunderstorms, rain, possible hail |
For 18 March, a slight increase in day and night temperatures is expected in most regions, whereas by 20 March, temperatures may decrease slightly in some areas. Regions including Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Sylhet are advised to stay particularly alert due to the potential for gusty winds, heavy rain, and thunderstorms.
The Meteorological Department has urged residents to exercise caution in agricultural fields, avoid unnecessary travel in open areas, and secure properties against strong winds. Hailstorms, though isolated, may pose risks to crops and infrastructure. Authorities emphasise that close attention to weather updates and adherence to safety guidelines can significantly reduce potential damage and protect lives.
Overall, while weather across the country will remain mostly unsettled, timely preparedness and vigilance are expected to mitigate the adverse effects of the upcoming storms.
