Triple Crash Leaves Three Dead in Feni

A tragic multi-vehicle collision involving two passenger buses, an ambulance, and a motorcycle has claimed the lives of three people and left at least five others seriously injured on the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway in the Ramapur area of Feni. The occurred in the early of Sunday (22 March), at approximately 4:00 a.m., a time when visibility is often limited and long-distance vehicles travel at higher speeds.

According to police officials, the bodies of the killed have been kept at the morgue of Feni Sadar Hospital, while efforts are ongoing to identify both the victims and the injured. Authorities have also indicated that some of the injured are in critical condition, raising fears that the death toll may increase.

Asadul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Mohipal Highway Police Station, provided details about the sequence of events. He explained that a portion of the Chattogram-bound lane along the Feni–Ramapur stretch was undergoing road maintenance work at the time. Due to this, traffic movement had slowed significantly, and vehicles were navigating the area cautiously.

An ambulance was moving slowly through the under-construction section when it was struck from behind by a bus belonging to Shyamoli Paribahan. Following the collision, a verbal altercation reportedly broke out between the drivers of the bus and the ambulance, causing a temporary on the highway.

This quickly resulted in a traffic build-up, with a motorcycle and several other vehicles becoming stuck behind the halted ambulance and bus. Shortly afterwards, another bus operated by Doel Paribahan approached the scene at high speed and crashed into the congested vehicles. The force of the impact triggered a chain-reaction collision involving the bus, ambulance, and motorcycle.

Among those killed were a motorcycle rider, a bus supervisor, and a passenger. Police have stated that efforts are ongoing to confirm the identities of the victims and inform their families.

Preliminary findings suggest that reckless driving, excessive speed, and inadequate traffic management around the roadwork zone were key factors behind the tragedy. Road safety analysts have long warned that insufficient warning signs, poor lane control, and lack of enforcement in construction zones significantly increase the risk of fatal accidents on major highways.

The accident caused temporary disruption to traffic on the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway. However, police and emergency responders worked swiftly to remove the damaged vehicles and restore normal traffic flow.
