President, Prime Minister Honour Liberation Heroes

In a solemn observance of the Great Independence and National Day, President Md. Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid their respects to the courageous martyrs who laid down their lives during Bangladesh’s Liberation War.

At daybreak on Thursday, the nation’s top leaders visited the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar, laying wreaths to commemorate the ultimate sacrifices of the nation’s bravest sons. After placing the floral tributes, both stood in silence, reflecting on the courage and devotion of those who fought for the country’s freedom.

A ceremonial guard drawn from the Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force provided a state salute, while the mournful tones of a bugle added solemnity to the occasion.

The ceremony drew a distinguished gathering, including the Chief Justice, Cabinet members, the three service chiefs, war-wounded freedom fighters, relatives of martyrs, diplomats, political leaders, and senior military and civilian officials.

Later in the morning, as party chairman, Tarique Rahman, accompanied by senior BNP leaders, offered floral tributes at the memorial, reaffirming the party’s respect for the nation’s fallen heroes. Simultaneously, the Prime Minister placed a wreath on behalf of the Cabinet.

The event concluded with prayers and supplications for the peace of the martyrs’ souls and the continued prosperity and well-being of the nation. Following the ceremony, Tarique Rahman interacted with war-wounded freedom fighters, families of martyrs, and other invited dignitaries, before signing the visitors’ book at the memorial.
