Grand Parade Commemorates Independence Day

On 26 March 2026, Bangladesh marked its Independence and National Day with a spectacular parade and aerial flypast at the National Parade Square, beginning at 9:30 a.m. The ceremony was attended by President Md. Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarek Rahman, alongside senior military officials, cabinet members, and foreign dignitaries.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a statement confirming that the event is open to the public. Visitors are advised to enter through gates 2, 3, 4, 10, and 11, and to avoid carrying bags to ensure smooth access and security.

Earlier in the day, at 6:00 a.m., the President and Prime Minister visited the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar to pay tribute to the heroes of the 1971 Liberation War. They observed a solemn moment of silence, honouring the sacrifices of the nation’s martyrs. A coordinated guard of honour, comprising personnel from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, provided a ceremonial salute, followed by a tribute from cabinet members.

The parade is organised under the guidance of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, supervised by the Armed Forces Division, and executed by the Ninth Infantry Division. Notably, this year marks the first Independence Day parade and flypast in 18 years, since 2008, symbolising the revival of a cherished national tradition.
