Police Assault in Palashbari Station

A serious incident has been reported in Palashbari, Gaibandha, where a dispute over the unlocking of a municipal shop allegedly escalated into violence inside a police station, leaving several officers, including the Officer-in-Charge (OC), injured.

According to police and local sources, the confrontation occurred on Wednesday night, between approximately 9:30 pm and 10:00 pm, inside Palashbari Police Station. The dispute centred on a long-standing disagreement over the unlocking of a shop owned by the municipality at Kalibari Market. What began as a local administrative issue ultimately spiralled into a confrontation within a state security facility.

Police allege that a group led by local youth wing leader Mahmudul Hasan Palash entered the police station and exerted pressure on officers to unlock the disputed shop. The Officer-in-Charge, Sarwar Alam, reportedly refused to bypass legal procedures, insisting that the matter be resolved through due process.

Tensions escalated following heated exchanges, and the situation allegedly turned violent. During the confrontation, OC Sarwar Alam and Sub-Inspector Ruhul Amin, along with at least six other police personnel, were injured. As the incident took place inside the station premises, additional officers were initially challenged in bringing the situation under control.

Following the unrest, reinforcements from local police units were deployed and eventually restored order. Security in and around the station was subsequently tightened to prevent further escalation.

A formal case has been filed by Sub-Inspector Ruhul Amin, naming eight individuals and several unidentified persons as accused. Police have confirmed that operations are underway to identify and arrest those involved.

In response to the allegations, the local Jamaat-e-Islami leadership stated that they would investigate the matter internally. Abu Bakkar Siddik visited the police station and said that CCTV footage would be reviewed to determine whether any party members were involved. He added that organisational action would be taken if wrongdoing was confirmed.

Senior police officials have described the incident as highly serious, stressing that any attack on law enforcement personnel within a government facility represents a grave breach of law and order. They further noted that the case is being investigated with priority, and that legal action will be pursued based on verified findings.
