A tragic incident in Dinajpur District has claimed the life of a 48-year-old motorcyclist who collapsed while waiting in a long queue to refuel at a petrol station in Kaharol Upazila.
The incident occurred at around 11:00 a.m. on Thursday (26 March) at the Ashma Latifa Filling Station. According to eyewitnesses and local sources, a substantial queue of vehicles had formed due to high demand for fuel. The deceased, identified as Enayetul Karim, was waiting on his motorcycle when he suddenly became unwell.
Witnesses reported that Karim, aged 48, appeared to be in distress before collapsing to the ground. Immediate efforts were made by bystanders to assist him, after which he was rushed to the Kaharol Upazila Health Complex. However, attending physicians declared him dead upon arrival.
Karim was originally from Sahapara village in Satore Union under Birganj Upazila. He was the son of the late Mozammel Master and was employed by a pesticide distribution company. He is survived by a son and a daughter. Family sources said he had recently been visiting his in-laws’ home in Kaharol and had gone to the petrol station to refuel his motorcycle.
Medical officials indicated that the deceased had a history of high blood pressure. Preliminary assessments suggest that the combination of prolonged standing in a crowded queue, physical fatigue, and possible heat stress may have triggered a sudden stroke or cardiovascular failure. Authorities confirmed that he had already died before reaching hospital care.
The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the local community, while also raising renewed concerns about the risks associated with long waiting times at fuel stations, particularly during peak demand periods. Residents noted that overcrowding, heat exposure, and lack of rest facilities at such locations can pose serious health hazards, especially for middle-aged individuals or those with pre-existing medical conditions.
Health experts emphasise that individuals with hypertension or cardiac issues should avoid prolonged physical strain, particularly in hot and congested environments. They also recommend maintaining hydration, taking intermittent rest where possible, and seeking immediate medical attention at the earliest sign of distress.
