A tragic case of alleged domestic violence in Naogaon’s Mahadebpur upazila has resulted in the death of a young homemaker, following an attack reportedly carried out by her husband during a prolonged family dispute. The victim, Afsana Mimi, succumbed to her injuries after days of critical treatment, while her husband, Saddam Hossain, also known as Sagar, has been arrested and sent to jail.
According to local accounts, the accused is the son of Jan Mohammad from the Sadar Madhyabazar village. The couple had been living in a rented house in the Dulalpara area of Mahadebpur upazila headquarters. Residents said their marital life had been marked by persistent discord and frequent arguments for a considerable period, although the severity of the situation was not widely known outside the household.
The incident occurred on the night of 16 March, when a domestic dispute escalated dramatically. Police and local sources reported that during the altercation, Saddam Hossain allegedly stabbed his wife with a knife, leaving her critically injured. Family members rushed her to a local health facility immediately after the attack. As her condition deteriorated, she was transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Despite intensive medical care over several days, she passed away on Friday, 27 March.
Following the incident, the accused reportedly went into hiding. Law enforcement authorities launched an investigation and conducted multiple operations based on intelligence and technological surveillance. He was eventually arrested from the Bakapur area of the upazila at around 9:00 pm on 28 March. The following day, on 29 March, he was produced before the court and subsequently sent to jail.
The Officer-in-Charge of Mahadebpur Police Station stated that the case was being treated with utmost seriousness. He confirmed that investigators acted swiftly after the incident was reported and that further legal procedures were ongoing. A detailed charge sheet is expected to be submitted after completion of the investigation.
