A tragic incident in Lalmohan upazila of Bhola district has claimed the life of a four-year-old boy after he drowned in a pond adjacent to his family home. The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon, 5 April, in the Char Charkina area under Ward No. 4 of Kalma Union, leaving the local community in deep shock and grief.
The deceased, identified as Md Alif, was the son of Md Obaidur Rahman, also known locally as Kajol Munshi. According to family members, the child had been playing cheerfully in the courtyard with other children during the afternoon hours, as is common in rural households where open spaces are used for recreation.
Speaking to local observers, Alif’s cousin, Md Suman Munshi, stated that the boy was last seen playing near the house before he suddenly went missing. At first, the family assumed he had simply wandered to another part of the homestead. However, as time passed without any sign of him, concern grew rapidly among relatives, prompting an extensive search across the surrounding area.
Tragically, the search ended in heartbreak when the child was discovered floating in the pond situated immediately beside the dwelling. Family members rushed him out of the water and attempted to revive him before transporting him urgently to Lalmohan Upazila Health Complex. Despite their efforts, attending physicians declared him dead upon arrival.
Local police were later informed of the incident. A team from Lalmohan Police Station visited the scene shortly afterwards, where they conducted an initial investigation and prepared an inquest report. Authorities confirmed that no signs of foul play were found and that the incident was consistent with an accidental drowning.
Following the completion of legal formalities and in the absence of any complaint from the bereaved family, the body was released to relatives for burial.
