Volunteer Party Leader Among Ten Injured in Kushtia Firing Incident

Ten people, including a local volunteer party leader, sustained injuries after being struck by gunfire during an attack by armed assailants in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia district. The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 pm on Monday in the Majdiyard area under Moricha union. All the injured individuals were transported to Kushtia General Hospital for medical treatment.

Police and local accounts state that the incident took place during a power outage in the area. At that time, Robiul Islam (36), who serves as the convenor of Moricha Union Volunteer Party, was standing and walking near his residence. A group of around 10 to 15 armed individuals reportedly arrived at the location and launched a sudden attack on him.

Following his calls for help, his parents and nearby residents came to the scene. As the crowd gathered, the attackers opened indiscriminate fire. Several people, including family members and other bystanders, were caught in the gunfire and injured. The assailants fled immediately after the attack.

The injured include Robiul Islam (36), his father Hafez Pramanik (70), Sohel Rana (45), Toma Khatun (26), Kamrul Islam (37), Munni Khatun (24), Runa Khatun (27), Mita Khatun (30), Touhidul Islam (30), and his wife Merina Khatun (25).

Robiul Islam’s mobile phone was found switched off when attempts were made to contact him following the incident. Speaking from Kushtia General Hospital, his maternal uncle Liakat Ali stated that the family was unaware of any existing dispute involving Robiul Islam. He further said that the attackers arrived suddenly and opened fire without prior warning, injuring multiple individuals who had come out after hearing the commotion.

Officer-in-Charge of Daulatpur Police Station, Arifur Rahman, confirmed that several rounds of gunfire were reported in the Moricha union area during the night. He stated that ten individuals sustained injuries, including Robiul Islam, who is in a serious condition. Police reached the scene shortly after receiving information and brought the situation under control. According to him, the motive behind the attack has not yet been established, and efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend those involved. A formal case is being processed at the police station.
