Father-Son Held with Yaba in Ishwardi

In a targeted operation in Pabna’s Ishwardi upazila, the District Detective Branch (DB) police have arrested a father and son on charges of drug trafficking, recovering 200 yaba tablets from their possession.

The arrests were made at approximately 8:30 pm on Saturday (9 May) in the Farazipara area of Saira Gopalpur under Ward No. 3 of Ishwardi Municipality. The individuals have been identified as Md Bhattu (45) and his son Md Nur Islam Shimul (20), both residents of the Farazipara locality, according to police.

Operation and Command Structure

Police sources confirmed that the operation was conducted under the directives of the Superintendent of Police (SP), Md Shufi Ullah, and supervised by Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), Rezinur Rahman. The raid was led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Rashidul Islam of the District Detective Branch as part of an ongoing anti-narcotics drive in the district.

Acting on confidential intelligence, the DB team conducted the raid in front of Bhattu’s furniture shop in the area. Upon noticing the presence of law enforcement personnel, the suspects allegedly attempted to flee the scene but were apprehended on the spot by the police team.

Seized Items

Following the arrests, a search was conducted in the presence of witnesses. The police recovered 200 yaba tablets from the custody of Md Bhattu. Additionally, three mobile phones and cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales were also seized.

Legal Proceedings

According to OC Md Rashidul Islam, preliminary interrogation suggests that the arrested individuals had been involved for an extended period in collecting yaba tablets from various sources and distributing them to drug users across different areas of Pabna district.

A case is currently being processed against the detainees under relevant sections of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018, at Ishwardi Police Station. Further legal procedures are underway in connection with the incident.
