A father and his son were killed after a bus collided with their motorcycle on the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway in Feni on Tuesday morning, according to police and family members.
The accident occurred at around 9:00am on 12 May in the Hafizia area along the busy national highway. The deceased were identified as Nur Alam, 46, and his son Nirob, 20. Nur Alam was a resident of Rajapur village under Mangal Kandi Union in Sonagazi Upazila, Feni, and was the son of Nurul Huda. He worked professionally as an ambulance driver.
Police and relatives said Nur Alam had been returning home on a motorcycle from his sister’s residence in Bhangar Takia, accompanied by his son and a nephew. While travelling along the highway, a speeding bus reportedly struck the motorcycle from behind, crushing the vehicle.
Nur Alam died on the spot due to the severity of the impact. Local residents rushed to the scene and rescued the critically injured Nirob and the other passenger. They were being taken to hospital for emergency treatment when Nirob succumbed to his injuries on the way.
The third passenger, identified as Nur Alam’s nephew, sustained injuries in the collision and was taken for medical care. However, no further details regarding his condition were immediately available.
The Dhaka–Chattogram Highway is one of Bangladesh’s busiest transport corridors, connecting the capital with the country’s main port city. Road safety experts have repeatedly raised concerns over reckless driving, speeding buses, poor lane discipline, and the vulnerability of motorcyclists on highways.
Officials from Mahipal Highway Police Station reached the scene shortly after the incident. Officer-in-Charge Md Asadul Islam confirmed that both the bus involved in the crash and the damaged motorcycle had been seized for investigation.
He said the bus driver fled the scene immediately after the accident and remains absconding. Police have launched efforts to trace the driver and gather further evidence regarding the cause of the crash.
A legal case is currently being prepared in connection with the incident.
