The Dubai Taxi Company has announced plans to recruit 6,000 skilled drivers from Bangladesh during the current year. As part of this initiative, interviews for driver selection are scheduled to begin tomorrow at the Bangladesh-Korea Technical Training Centre in Dhaka.
The information was disclosed on Sunday (17 May) during a courtesy meeting in the capital between a delegation from Dubai Taxi Company and the Minister of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, Ariful Haque Choudhury, at the ministry office.
During the meeting, the minister thanked the delegation for recruiting skilled drivers from Bangladesh and expressed optimism that such employment opportunities would continue in the future. He also assured full cooperation from the ministry to facilitate the recruitment process smoothly.
The minister further urged the company to ensure that workers receive wages and allowances during their training period after arriving in Dubai. In addition, he requested the consideration of recruiting Bangladeshi professionals in other sectors, including doctors and nurses.
Representatives of Dubai Taxi Company stated that the organisation currently employs around 15,000 staff members from 27 countries, working as taxi and limousine drivers. Of these, approximately 8,000 are Bangladeshi nationals. They noted that Bangladeshi workers are given priority due to their skills, discipline, and strong work ethic.
They also confirmed that interviews starting tomorrow will be used to shortlist around 1,500 drivers. The company further expressed interest in recruiting a total of 6,000 Bangladeshi drivers within the current year.
The State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, Md. Nurul Haque, highlighted that migration to Dubai often involves significant financial costs for Bangladeshi drivers. As many workers come from low-income backgrounds, they frequently depend on loans to finance overseas employment. He therefore called on relevant stakeholders to reduce migration costs to within 100,000 Bangladeshi Taka.
Representatives of the authorised recruiting agency for sending workers to the United Arab Emirates, Al Anas Overseas, also informed the meeting that, alongside drivers, they are interested in recruiting cleaners, technicians, and mechanics from Bangladesh.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including the Secretary of the Ministry, Md. Mokhtar Ahmed, as well as senior representatives from Dubai Taxi Company and other officials from the ministry.
