‘Don’t worry, Agami. I was with you, I am with you, and I always will be.’

Those were the poignant words written by Adit Kar after his fiancée, Agami Chakraborty, was allegedly murdered just days before their wedding in Rangpur. Agami, a student of Carmichael College, was among four members of the same family whose bodies were recovered from a locked house in the city’s Machuapara area.

Adit’s emotional social media message has touched relatives, friends and acquaintances, offering a deeply personal glimpse into the shock and grief following Agami’s death.

On Sunday night, a Facebook page called ‘Carmichael College Crush and Confessions’ published a photograph of Agami and Adit along with his message. In the post, Adit wrote, ‘The last remaining support of my life has also come to an end.’

Recalling a moment from only days before the tragedy, Adit said the photograph had been taken on Wednesday. According to his message, Agami had asked him to take a picture together, telling him that they had never taken a photograph as a couple before.

‘Don’t worry, Agami. I was with you, I am with you, and I will remain with you,’ he wrote.

The couple’s wedding date had already been finalised, and preparations were under way in both families. What should have been a period of excitement and anticipation instead ended in tragedy. Agami was killed along with her father, mother and brother before the couple could begin their planned life together.

Police recovered the bodies of four members of the Chakraborty family from a locked house in Machuapara, Rangpur city, on Saturday night. The victims were identified as Ganapati Chakraborty, a former teacher at Rangpur Zilla School, his wife, their son and their daughter Agami Chakraborty.

Police said all four had been strangled.

The family had reportedly been out of contact with relatives since after midnight on Thursday. Concern grew when relatives were unable to reach them. After receiving information from family members, police went to the house on Saturday night and recovered the four bodies.

The deaths have caused shock in the area, particularly because four members of one family were found dead inside their home. Investigators have since begun examining the circumstances surrounding the killings and the events that preceded them.

At a press conference on Sunday afternoon, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud said two people had been detained on suspicion of involvement in the killings. They were identified as 23-year-old Mugdha Das and 19-year-old Siddhartha Das. The pair were detained early on Sunday.

According to the police commissioner, Mugdha and Siddhartha allegedly entered Ganapati Chakraborty’s house through the roof after crossing over from an adjacent building. Police said the killings began after Ganapati Chakraborty allegedly objected to their use of yaba.

He was allegedly killed first, after which his wife, daughter and son were also killed, according to the preliminary account provided by police.

The two detainees are being questioned as investigators continue to establish the sequence of events and the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Police are also examining whether anyone else was involved in the incident.

For Adit, however, the tragedy carries an especially painful significance. The wedding date had already been fixed, and the couple had taken what would become their final photograph only days before Agami’s death.

A simple photograph that was meant to mark their relationship has now become a lasting reminder of a future that was never realised. Adit’s words, written in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy, reflect the personal devastation caused by losing his fiancée at a time when the two families were preparing to celebrate their marriage.

The investigation into the deaths of the four family members is continuing, while the detained suspects remain in police custody for questioning.
