The Bangladesh Police have apprehended a 28-year-old man in connection with the rape of a third-grade schoolgirl in the Faridpur Sadar Upazila. The suspect, identified as Jihad Khan, was arrested during a nocturnal raid in the Shibchar area of Madaripur district. He is the son of Hashem Khan and a resident of Uttar Sadipur village, located within the Aliyabad Union of Faridpur Sadar Upazila.
Incident Details and Legal Proceedings
According to police and local sources, the incident occurred on Wednesday, 13 May, during the afternoon. The young victim was returning home from school after completing an examination. As she reached the Bilmamudpur area, the suspect, Jihad Khan, intercepted her and administered a toxic chemical substance to her face, causing her to lose consciousness. He then moved the unconscious child into an adjacent maize field, where the assault took place.
The victim regained consciousness upon hearing the Islamic call to prayer (Adhan) and discovered the suspect standing beside her. When the child stated that she would report the incident to others, the suspect threatened to murder her if she disclosed the matter. Following the ordeal, the girl managed to seek refuge at a nearby residence, where she narrated the entire event to the occupants.
Once the incident came to light, the victim’s mother filed a formal complaint on the very same day (13 May) at the Kotwali Police Station, initiating a case against the perpetrator. The young girl is currently admitted to a local hospital, where she continues to receive medical treatment for her injuries and illness.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Following the registration of the case, law enforcement authorities launched coordinated operations across various regions of the country to track down the fleeing suspect. Sub-Inspector (SI) Hasan Shikdar of the Kotwali Police Station confirmed that the suspect had gone into hiding immediately after the crime.
Utilising intelligence and tracking methods, the police successfully located and arrested Jihad Khan in Madaripur’s Shibchar area within three days of the incident. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that the suspect will be produced before the court today to face formal legal proceedings.
