In Tekuapara village under Garadah Union in Shahjadpur Upazila of Sirajganj, a series of robbery threats involving letters marked with blood has been reported. The incident prompted a late-night on-site visit on Saturday (16 May) by Sirajganj District Police Superintendent Md Saiful Islam Santu, who advised residents not to panic and assured them of heightened security measures.
According to local accounts, the village has recently experienced a pattern of alleged robberies involving the use of anaesthetic spray. Following these incidents, at least 15 households received threatening letters over the past four to five days, reportedly issued under the name “Raghu Dakat” (Raghu the Bandit). One such letter, delivered to the residence of local resident Abu Saeed, was found to contain visible blood stains, intensifying concern among villagers.
The content of the letter stated: “Tomorrow we will come to your house to commit robbery, so keep the door open. If you do not open it, you will be killed. Signed: Raghu Dakat.”
Local residents reported that several homes have already been targeted in robberies involving anaesthetic spray, after which locks were broken and cash along with gold ornaments were stolen. In one reported incident, a bull valued at approximately 200,000 Bangladeshi Taka was also stolen. In addition, multiple houses were reportedly entered by cutting through iron grills, resulting in the theft of mobile phones and other valuable items.
With the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha season, livestock farmers in the area have expressed particular concern over the security of their cattle, many of whom are reportedly spending sleepless nights guarding their animals.
