Burnt Body Found After Woman Goes Missing

A 36-year-old woman who went missing after leaving a relative’s home in Thakurgaon has been found dead, with burn marks visible on parts of her body, according to police.

The deceased, identified as Nasima Akter, was the wife of Abdullah of Hossengaon village in Ranishankail Upazila and the mother of three children. Her body was recovered on Monday morning from the roadside in Fazilpur village under Haripur Upazila.

According to police and local sources, several residents noticed a woman’s body lying beside a road in Fazilpur at around 8:00 a.m. on Monday. Relatives later arrived at the scene and identified the deceased as Nasima Akter.

Police subsequently recovered the body and sent it to the morgue at Thakurgaon General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Investigators and family members said Nasima had travelled on Sunday to Mahendragao village in Haripur Upazila to visit relatives. She was accompanied by two of her children, a son and a daughter. According to relatives, she left the house alone in the evening and did not return.

The following morning, family members learned that a woman’s body had been found in Fazilpur village, approximately four kilometres from the relative’s residence. They went to the location and confirmed that the body was Nasima’s.

Police said visible burn marks were found on one side of her face and on parts of her back. The circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.

Haripur Police Station Inspector Shariful Islam said the burn marks on the body suggest that there may have been an attempt to set the body on fire after the killing. However, he emphasised that the exact cause of death cannot be confirmed until the post-mortem report is received.

The officer added that the examination will also determine whether any form of sexual assault occurred. Until the forensic findings are available, police have not reached a final conclusion regarding the circumstances of the death.

Authorities have begun preparations to file a case, and the investigation is continuing. Police said further details regarding the cause of death and any possible criminal involvement will depend on the findings of the post-mortem report and subsequent investigative procedures.
