The commercial and public insurance sectors of Bangladesh returned to full operational status on Monday, 1 June 2026, following a seven-day holiday observed for Eid-ul-Azha. Offices belonging to both state-owned and private insurance corporations reported high employee attendance as normal business operations commenced across the country.
Firms prioritised the clearance of backlogged administrative tasks and the swift processing of pending insurance claims to ensure the continuity of customer service. The extended closure for the sector’s workforce began on 25 May and concluded on 31 May 2026.
Administrative Mandate and Schedule Alterations
In accordance with a circular issued by the Ministry of Public Administration, the multi-day holiday applied uniformly to the insurance industry, as well as to all government, semi-government, autonomous, and private institutions.
Initially, a six-day holiday period had been established based on the anticipation of Eid-ul-Azha falling on 28 May 2026. The original gazette designated a general holiday on the day of the festival (28 May), preceded by executive orders declaring holidays on 26 and 27 May, and followed by further executive holidays running from 29 May to 31 May.
Following its transition into office, the new government altered the schedule by adding an extra day of leave to ease the festive commute for the public. The Ministry of Public Administration subsequently issued a new directive declaring Monday, 25 May 2026, as an official additional holiday.

Provision for Emergency Services
The final modification by the ministry brought the total duration of the festive recess to seven consecutive days. To mitigate potential disruptions caused by the lengthy closure, the government issued an explicit directive requiring all essential and emergency services nationwide to remain active and fully staffed throughout the holiday period.
With the expiration of the holiday framework, the financial and insurance sectors have resumed standard operating hours to manage outstanding claims and routine customer transactions.
