CCTV Footage of Mohammadpur Cleaver Attack Triggers Manhunt

Dhaka metropolitan police have launched a series of coordinated raids across the capital following a brutal home invasion in Mohammadpur, which was caught on camera and widely shared online. The violent assault, which took place on Friday evening at the residence of prominent local merchant Abu Bakar, has renewed public anxieties regarding gang culture and neighborhood security in the area.

The attack unfolded within the ground-floor garage of the property, located adjacent to the busy Mohammadpur Tin Rastar Mor junction. In the video clip, which spans one minute and twenty-five seconds, two men are seen sitting in plastic chairs when an aggressive group approaches them. The dialogue rapidly dissolves into physical intimidation, culminating in a terrifying display of bladed weapons inside the residential compound.

Anatomy of the Attack

The viral footage has provided law enforcement with clear visual evidence of the assailants’ identities and tactics. Detectives are focusing on several key actions captured in the recording:

• Initial Confrontation: The suspect group enters the open garage area, surrounds the seated residents, and blocks the exit.

• Weapon Concealment: A young man pulls a large, heavy cleaver directly from his waistband, exposing a hidden cache of weapons.

• Physical Assault: An older associate, dressed in a traditional white panjabi, disarms the youth only to immediately strike a seated victim across the upper body with the flat, blunt side of the blade.

• Secondary Threat: The adolescent pulls a second hidden cleaver, swinging it repeatedly toward the victims to prevent them from defending themselves or escaping.

Legal Proceedings and Police Response

The Officer-in-Charge of Mohammadpur Police Station, Mezbah Uddin, confirmed on Saturday that the state has initiated criminal proceedings. A formal case has been filed by the property owner, Abu Bakar—referred to locally as “Abu Company”—naming four individual suspects who are currently evading arrest.

According to the official complaint, the perpetrators are known to the family. The violence stems from a long-running, bitter dispute over land boundaries and commercial property valuation. Rather than pursuing resolution through the civil court system, the suspects allegedly chose to employ armed intimidation to pressure the merchant.

Local law enforcement teams have heightened patrols around the Tin Rastar Mor sector to restore public confidence. Police Chief Mezbah Uddin stated that specialised detective teams are using the digital video to track the gang members, assuring the community that the suspects face multiple severe charges, including illegal armed entry, assault with intent to cause grievous hurt, and criminal intimidation.
