Islami Andolan Bangladesh Senior Vice President Mufti Syed Muhammad Fayzul Karim has voiced sharp dissatisfaction over the direction of a political alliance, alleging that the coalition’s original ideological trajectory has been compromised.
Addressing a gathering organised to mark the anniversary of Islami Yuba Andolan—the youth wing of the party—in Gournadi, Barishal, the prominent Islamic scholar used vivid allegories to illustrate his grievance regarding the political grouping. He stated that the alliance was originally formed under the leadership of Syed Rezaul Karim, the Peer of Charmonai, with a firm commitment to establishing a ballot box representing Islamic values.
“We were heading towards Madinah, but the steering was hijacked; a robbery occurred. The caravan was moving towards Madinah, but suddenly we noticed it was travelling towards America,” Mufti Fayzul Karim remarked.
Expanding on his critique, the scholar, widely known as Shaykh-e-Charmonai, stressed that true followers of the Prophetic tradition cannot compromise their core principles for geopolitical or foreign alignments. He asserted that an Islamic governance system would eventually be established as long as believers remained steadfast on their authentic path, pointing out that faith has historically flourished through divine grace rather than financial influence or raw political power.
Touching upon broader governance and national interest, the leader emphasised that the country must never be compromised or sold out for personal gain. His remarks underscored growing friction within conservative political circles regarding national sovereignty, strategic alliances, and the perceived influence of foreign powers on domestic policy matters.
The conference, held at a venue near the Gournadi bus stand, brought together several senior and district-level leaders of the organization. Vice-Principal Maulana Sirajul Islam, President of the Barishal District unit of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, attended as a special guest, alongside Maulana Al Amin, Central Organisational Secretary of Islami Yuba Andolan, who delivered the keynote address.
The event was presided over by Maulana Mirajul Islam, President of the Gournadi branch of Islami Yuba Andolan. Other key speakers who addressed the gathering included:
Arman Hossain Riyad, President, Barishal District Islami Yuba Andolan
Russel Sardar Mehedi, President, Agailjhara Upazila Islami Andolan Bangladesh
Mufti Mostafa Kamal, President, Gournadi Upazila Islami Andolan Bangladesh
Maulana Emdad Hossain, General Secretary, Gournadi Upazila Islami Andolan Bangladesh
The speeches collectively reflected a call for political integrity, moral leadership, and adherence to foundational principles amid an evolving national political landscape.
