Man Allegedly Bludgeoned to Death by Paramour in Madaripur

A 26-year-old man was allegedly murdered inside his lover’s marital home in Rajoir Upazila of Madaripur district on Wednesday night, 23 July. The victim, identified as Maruf Matubbar, was reportedly struck on the head with an electric clothes iron before his body was concealed beneath a bed.

The deceased was the son of Haider Matubbar, hailing from Chowkighata village in the Bhanga Upazila of neighbouring Faridpur district. Police have arrested a local woman, Liza Akter, in connection with the horrific killing. Liza is married to Kamrul Matubbar, a migrant worker currently residing in Kuwait, and resides in the Noyakanda area of Phultala Kashimpur.

According to police and family sources, Maruf and Liza had been in a romantic relationship for six years. Four years ago, Liza married Kamrul, who departed for Kuwait shortly after the wedding. Meanwhile, Maruf had travelled to Libya in an attempt to reach Italy, returning to Bangladesh approximately a month ago. Following his return, the pair resumed their illicit affair.

Investigations indicate that Liza invited Maruf to her in-laws’ home on Wednesday evening. A heated altercation erupted between the two during the night, escalating until Liza allegedly seized an electric iron and struck Maruf forcefully on the head. The impact proved fatal, causing him to die on the spot. In a bid to conceal the crime, an electric wire was wrapped around his neck, and his body was stuffed underneath a bed inside the house.

Alerted by local information, a team from Rajoir Police Station raided the premises, recovered the corpse, and took Liza into custody.

Grieving the loss, the victim’s father, Haider Matubbar, expressed his anguish, claiming his son was lured to the location under a calculated ploy and brutally murdered. He demanded swift justice and a thorough police investigation.

Confirming the incident, Aminul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rajoir Police Station, stated that visible injury marks were found across the victim’s body. The police are currently preparing the official case documentation as part of the ongoing legal proceedings.
