Remittance Flow Drives Currency Rate Watch

More than 10 million Bangladeshis are living and working across different parts of the world, and the money they send home continues to play a vital role in strengthening the country’s foreign exchange reserves and supporting the domestic economy. Alongside remittance inflows, foreign currency exchange rates remain a key factor in international trade, import and export activities, overseas education, medical expenses, travel, and cross-border financial transactions.

On Saturday, 1 August 2026, the exchange rate of the Bangladeshi taka against several major foreign currencies showed notable variations, with the US dollar quoted at Tk 123.34. The euro was valued at Tk 145.05, while the British pound stood at Tk 167.06. Among major Gulf currencies, the Saudi riyal was recorded at Tk 33, the UAE dirham at Tk 33.72, and the Qatari riyal at Tk 34.02.

For expatriate Bangladeshis, exchange rates hold particular importance as they directly influence the local value of remittances received by families in the country. A rise or fall in the value of foreign currencies against the taka can affect the amount of money received after conversion. The exchange rate also plays a significant role for students studying abroad, patients seeking overseas treatment, and travellers making international payments.

The latest rates reflect the broader movement of global currency markets, economic conditions in different countries, and domestic demand and supply factors. However, actual transaction rates may vary depending on the bank, authorised money exchange institution, and the nature of the transaction. Differences are often seen between cash currency exchanges, remittance transfers, and banking channel transactions.

Among the Gulf currencies listed on 1 August, the Kuwaiti dinar recorded the highest value at Tk 402.70 per unit, followed by the Bahraini dinar at Tk 328.65 and the Omani riyal at Tk 320.50. In contrast, currencies such as the Japanese yen and South Korean won maintained much lower values against the taka, with one yen valued at Tk 0.789 and one won at Tk 0.08494190.

The exchange rates recorded for various foreign currencies were as follows:

Currency exchange rates are not fixed and can change frequently due to fluctuations in international financial markets, foreign currency reserves, monetary policies of central banks, and economic developments in individual countries. Market demand and supply conditions also influence daily movements.

Financial experts generally advise individuals and businesses involved in large-scale foreign currency transactions to check the latest rates from banks or authorised financial institutions before completing payments or exchanges. This is particularly important for remittance senders, importers, exporters, and others whose financial decisions depend heavily on currency movements.
