Police officers in Gazipur have taken into custody Rafiqul Islam Mondal Bulbul, a prominent local politician and former president of the Sreepur Pourashava Awami League. Bulbul, who also previously served as the vice chairman of the Sreepur Upazila Parishad, was apprehended in connection with multiple murder cases linked to violent clashes during the recent anti-discrimination student protests.

The law enforcement drive was conducted at approximately 9:00 pm on Thursday, 6 August, in Bhanganhati village, situated within Sreepur Municipality. Officers executed the arrest at the residence of the 52-year-old suspect, who is the son of the late Hazrat Ali Mondal. The operation followed specific intelligence detailing the whereabouts of the named political figure.

Mohammad Shahinur Alam, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreepur Police Station, officially confirmed the detention. He stated that police acted swiftly upon receiving credible information regarding the suspect, who had been formally named in several First Information Reports (FIRs) alleging murder during the anti-discrimination movement.
