Ninety-Three Narcotics Suspects Detained in Extensive Cumilla Raids

Law enforcement authorities in Cumilla have apprehended 93 individuals during a synchronised, district-wide anti-narcotics campaign carried out across all local police jurisdictions within a 24-hour window. The targeted sweep involved 44 separate raids aimed at dismantling entrenched supply routes, regional distributors, and street-level drug dens.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Ishtiaque Hasan Ameen confirmed the outcomes of the operation during a press briefing on Friday afternoon, detailing the scope of the coordinated enforcement drive that began on Thursday.

Over the course of the day-long operation, police teams confiscated substantial quantities of illicit substances, including 1,517 yaba tablets, 72 kilograms of cannabis, cash suspected to be proceeds of drug sales, and various tools utilised in the packaging and consumption of narcotics. The initiative was structured to intercept illicit distribution at multiple stages, targeting wholesale syndicates, couriers, and retail consumers simultaneously.

Immediate legal actions were initiated against all 93 detainees through several judicial avenues, encompassing standard police cases, summary proceedings in magistrate courts, and expedited mobile court interventions. A number of offenders were handed immediate custodial sentences and financial penalties via executive magistrate orders, whilst others remain in custody facing formal prosecution under the Narcotics Control Act.

The intensified enforcement forms part of a sustained campaign initiated on 16 August following directives from the Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Chattogram Range, overseen locally by the Superintendent of Police in Cumilla. District authorities have maintained a zero-tolerance approach toward organised narcotics networks, particularly given the area’s strategic location along key transit corridors for cross-border contraband.

During his address, Additional Superintendent Ameen reiterated the force’s commitment to eliminating local drug networks. He noted that the 44 coordinated raids reflect an ongoing strategy to maintain relentless pressure on illegal supply lines. Authorities affirmed that comprehensive operations—combining active raids, executive mobile courts, and formal judicial filings—will continue across major town centres, frontier zones, and rural communities throughout the district.
