Egyptian talent Ziad Ibrahim delivered a masterclass performance to claim the title at the Bangladesh International Squash 2026, defeating Sri Lanka’s Ravindu Laksiri in a clinical straight-sets victory at Bashundhara Sports City. Demonstrating supreme court coverage and tactical precision throughout the final, Ibrahim secured a convincing 3-0 win to bring the five-day international tournament to an exhilarating end.
The competition brought together 24 elite professional players representing 11 countries across Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe. Competitors hailed from hosts Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Singapore, Iran, Kuwait, Bahrain, Egypt, Japan, and Germany. Bangladesh was represented by a three-member squad consisting of Aminul, Simon, and young prospect Parvez Karim.
At the closing presentation, trophies, medals, and prize money were distributed to the winners. Parvez Karim received special accolades as the best performer for the host nation, acknowledging his impressive campaign and rising trajectory within the domestic circuit. Major General Muha. Hasan-uz-Zaman, NDU, AFWC, PSC, MPhil, Engineer-in-Chief of the Bangladesh Army, graced the occasion as chief guest to present the championship trophies. Other distinguished guests included tournament promoter Brigadier General G M Kamrul Islam, SPP (retd), and Colonel Mohasinul Karim, Senior Executive Director of Bashundhara Sports City, alongside high-ranking sports administrators.
Squash in Bangladesh has experienced substantial growth over the past five years. National sports authorities, working alongside private partners, have poured resources into modernising facilities and structuring grassroots development programmes. A key driver behind hosting high-calibre international tournaments is the country’s ambitious long-term objective: securing qualification for the 2032 Olympic Games, where squash will feature on the global stage.
Competing against international professionals offers domestic players critical exposure to high-pressure environments, helping narrow the gap between regional standards and top-tier global circuits. The seamless execution of the 2026 tournament highlights Dhaka’s expanding capability as a venue for world-class sporting events while giving Bangladesh’s emerging squash talent a firm foundation for future international success.
