Industrial security in Narayanganj has come under scrutiny once again after a local criminal syndicate launched a brazen attack on a manufacturing and commercial facility. The incident unfolded when factory management flatly refused to bow down to illegal protection money demands, triggering an act of vandalism that has left workers and owners deeply unnerved.
The violent episode took place on Thursday afternoon at the ‘Holoplust Centre’, an industrial establishment situated in the Sukhertek area under Madanpur union within the Bandar upazila of Narayanganj district. According to details shared by the factory’s manager, Saiful Islam, a local influential extortionist gang had been pestering the enterprise for substantial sums of money for quite some time. When management consistently declined to fulfill these illicit financial demands, the syndicate decided to resort to intimidation.
On Thursday afternoon, a group of unruly perpetrators arrived at the premises and launched a sudden, aggressive assault. Armed individuals attempted to shatter the main security gate to forcibly gain entry into the manufacturing compound. Failing to break through the primary entrance due to resistance and sturdy construction, the attackers redirected their frustration toward the exterior infrastructure. They systematically smashed the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras mounted along the boundary wall to eliminate potential visual evidence before fleeing the scene. As they retreated, the miscreants hurled open death threats against the factory personnel, warning of graver consequences if operations continued without paying the demanded extortion fees.
Fearing for the safety of employees and the security of company assets, the factory administration acted promptly. A formal written complaint detailing the sequence of events and naming potential local suspects was lodged at the Bandar Police Station.
Law enforcement authorities moved quickly upon receiving the grievance. On Saturday, August 29, a specialized team of police officers visited the crime scene to gather physical evidence, review surrounding security blind spots, and record statements from eyewitnesses.
Additional Superintendent of Police Dipankar Ghosh officially confirmed the occurrence, noting that a formal police investigation is now actively underway. Investigators are currently scrutinising the collected evidence and working to identify the culprits involved in the shakedown. Local business owners have expressed deep concern over the incident, calling for heightened police patrols and stringent security measures across industrial hubs in the region to protect commercial ventures from criminal elements.
