Netrokona Man Allegedly Hacked to Death by Son in Domestic Attack

A tragedy has struck the municipality of Madan in Netrokona district after a 65-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death by his own son inside their family home. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning, has left the local community in shock as law enforcement authorities move swiftly to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal assault.

The deceased has been identified as Kundu Miah, also known locally as Elahi, a resident of Ward No. 6 within Madan municipality. According to family members and local police reports, the fatal event unfolded shortly after dawn when Mr Miah returned to his residence following morning prayers. Seeking a warm beverage, he entered the kitchen to prepare tea. Unbeknownst to him, his son, Yasin, approached from behind armed with a boti—a traditional curved household cleaver—and launched a sudden attack, striking his father severely on the back of the neck.

The catastrophic blow left Mr Miah critically injured and collapsing onto the floor. Relatives scrambled to his aid upon hearing the commotion, finding the victim bleeding heavily. They rushed him to the nearest healthcare facility without delay. Medical personnel examined the elderly victim upon arrival; however, despite urgent efforts, the attending doctor pronounced him dead due to the sheer severity of the neck trauma.

Following the violent outbreak, Yasin attempted to flee the premises to evade capture. Local police were alerted immediately and launched a quick operation, apprehending the suspect nearby before he could escape the area. News of the killing spread rapidly, sending shockwaves throughout the neighbourhood as residents struggled to comprehend the violence.

Speaking on the initial findings, Saladdin Karim, the Officer-in-Charge of Madan Police Station, stated that statements gathered from family members suggest the accused suffers from psychological issues. Police are currently verifying these claims, reviewing his medical background, and gathering formal evidence to confirm his mental state.

Investigators are also looking into whether any underlying domestic disputes or sudden triggers sparked the attack. Legal proceedings against the detainee are ongoing, and police have dispatched the body to the Netrokona Medical College Hospital morgue for a formal post-mortem examination. Authorities confirmed that the autopsy report will provide clearer insight into the precise nature of the fatal injuries as the broader investigation continues.
