The grim discoveries unfolded on a Saturday afternoon when local residents spotted the bodies floating in different stretches of the river and immediately alerted the authorities. Swift responses from naval police units ensured the retrieval of the deceased before the currents could carry them further away.

According to Assistant Sub-Inspector Babul Mia of the Barishur Naval Police outpost, a distress call was received via the national emergency helpline 999 at around midday on Saturday. Acting on the tip-off, officers rushed to the middle of the river near the Bepari Ghat area, where they fished out the naked body of an unidentified man, aged approximately forty years. Initial observations revealed no visible marks of physical violence on the skin. Officials estimate that the body may have been in the water for two to three days, given its state of decomposition.

Meanwhile, a parallel recovery operation was carried out by the Hasnabad Naval Police unit. Commuters crossing the river by boat near the Doleshwar ferry terminal spotted another floating corpse and notified the local police station. A patrol team arrived promptly and brought the body ashore. The second victim, believed to be around twenty-eight years old, was found wearing a pair of jeans and a full-sleeve shirt. Similar to the first case, preliminary inspections by law enforcement officers indicated an absence of any external trauma or injuries.

Efforts are currently underway to establish the identities of both deceased individuals through fingerprint scanning and checks against nationwide missing persons registries. Investigators are also probing the sequence of events leading up to their presence in the river to ascertain whether foul play was involved. Separate legal procedures and formal case filings are currently being processed at the respective local police stations as the investigation continues.
