A 23-year-old woman has been fatally stabbed inside her residence in Gazipur after an unidentified assailant infiltrated her rented flat, sending shockwaves through the local community.
The attack took place at approximately 10:30 am on Sunday in the Ambag Ataur Market area under the jurisdiction of Konabari Police Station in Gazipur City Corporation. The victim, identified as Sanjida Akter, was the daughter of Shahahan Howlader, a resident of the Kotwali police station precinct in Barishal district. Sanjida had been residing in the rented accommodation in Gazipur for her day-to-day living.
According to statements gathered from local residents and law enforcement officials, a young man gained entry to the apartment during the mid-morning hours. An altercation or sudden ambush culminated in the assailant striking Sanjida directly in the chest with a knife before fleeing the scene swiftly. Hearing her desperate cries for help, neighbours rushed to the property and found her suffering from severe thoracic injuries.
Distressed onlookers immediately organized transport to rush her to a nearby medical facility for emergency care. Her condition deteriorated rapidly due to heavy bleeding, and she was pronounced dead prior to reaching the hospital.
Upon receiving news of the fatal assault, a team from the Konabari Police Station arrived at the location to secure the premises and take custody of the body. Police have commenced standard legal protocols, including sending the deceased for an official post-mortem examination to establish the precise cause of death.
The brazen daylight intrusion has sparked widespread panic among residents in the industrial hub of Gazipur. Questions remain regarding how the attacker managed to gain access to the property and whether he was previously acquainted with the victim. Investigators are examining all potential motives, exploring whether the assault stemmed from personal enmity, an attempted robbery, or a targeted dispute. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Konabari Police Station under the Gazipur Metropolitan Police, Md. Iftekhar Hossain, confirmed that officers are actively working to identify and apprehend the perpetrator. He stated that the formal legal procedure is currently underway and assured the public that a thorough investigation will bring clarity to the tragedy.
While police maintain that the local security situation remains stable, the sudden loss of Sanjida Akter has left her family and acquaintances in deep grief, with neighbours demanding swift justice and heightened security in the area.
