A student leader in Gazipur’s Sreepur Upazila has been expelled from his organisation following serious allegations of orchestrating the daylight abduction of a female undergraduate student who turned down his marriage proposal.
The victim, a second-year student at Pear Ali University College, was reportedly seized on the morning of 28 September outside a local store near her home. The primary accused, 24-year-old Md Rizvi, held the post of general secretary for the Pear Ali University College branch of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student political wing associated with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
Gazipur District JCD responded swiftly to the public outcry by removing Rizvi from his position and revoking his membership on grounds of breaching party discipline. A formal letter issued by Sarkar Md Rakib Hossain, office secretary of the district unit, confirmed the disciplinary measure. Sohag Hossain, acting president of Gazipur District JCD, stated that the action was taken after specific allegations of anti-disciplinary conduct came to light.
A Pattern of Stalking and Escalation
According to the written complaint submitted to the police by the victim’s family, Rizvi—a resident of Singardighi village in Sreepur’s Maona Union and son of Monir Hossain—had been systematically harassing the student along her daily commute to campus.
When the student informed her family of the persistent stalking, her relatives confronted Rizvi and warned him to desist. The warnings had little effect, and his harassment continued unabated.
Seeking a peaceful resolution, the victim’s family subsequently approached Rizvi’s parents, Monir Hossain and Nilufa Akter, asking them to restrain their son. Rather than reprimanding him, his parents dispatched a formal marriage proposal to the victim’s household. Viewing the offer as an attempt to force a union under duress, the student’s family flatly rejected it.
Forced into Vehicle Near Her Home
The refusal proved to be the catalyst for the subsequent attack. On the morning of 28 September, the student walked to a neighbourhood shop near her home to purchase everyday items. Witnesses and family members reported that Rizvi was already waiting nearby alongside several accomplices.
As the student approached the shop, the men surrounded her, dragged her forcibly into an awaiting vehicle, and sped off. She has been missing ever since.
Following the incident, the victim’s family lodged a formal complaint at Sreepur Police Station, naming Rizvi alongside his father and mother as co-accused for their alleged roles in enabling and executing the crime.
Ongoing Search and Investigation
Law enforcement agencies launched targeted search operations immediately after receiving the complaint. Officers from Maona Police Outpost, led by Sub-Inspector Md Shahinur Islam, conducted raids across several locations pinpointed by the victim’s family. However, neither the student nor the suspect has been located so far.
Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahinur Alam confirmed that formal legal proceedings are underway, with multiple police teams deployed to trace the vehicle and rescue the victim safely.
Attempts to contact Rizvi directly for comment have been unsuccessful, as his mobile phone remains switched off. Local authorities stressed that while search operations remain active, the full circumstances of the abduction and the specific liabilities of those named will be determined through the ongoing judicial process.
