Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (Racsu) General Secretary Salahuddin Ammaar was removed from the ‘Sathi’ position of Islami Chhatra Shibir’s Rajshahi University unit following a series of allegations, including trading organisational positions for money, financial irregularities, unauthorised financial transactions and alleged inappropriate conduct involving women.
According to three letters signed by former and current presidents of the university unit, Ammaar’s organisational position was first suspended and later cancelled. Several current Shibir leaders have also confirmed his previous association with the organisation and the subsequent decision to remove him.
The documents show that on 11 September 2025, the Rajshahi University unit decided to cancel Ammaar’s Sathi position. The decision came after allegations had been raised against him and an internal review had been carried out by the organisation.
Earlier, on 4 February 2025, a letter signed by then university unit president and Racsu Vice-President Mostakur Rahman Zahid detailed several allegations against Ammaar. The letter referred to claims that positions in the Rajshahi metropolitan and district committees of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement had been distributed in exchange for money. It also referred to allegations concerning his conduct and other matters that the organisation regarded as breaches of its internal standards.
The letter said the allegations had come to the organisation’s attention through information from individuals and platforms, as well as reports published by leading media organisations. The claims were subsequently discussed at the university unit’s monthly secretariat meeting on 3 February 2025.
Following that meeting, the organisation decided to suspend Ammaar’s Sathi position over alleged breaches of organisational discipline. The letter stated that further organisational action could be taken if the allegations were established after considering his response.
A second letter, signed by Zahid on 19 September 2025, stated that Ammaar’s Sathi position had been cancelled because of alleged activities outside organisational discipline over an extended period. It also said that repeated efforts had been made to correct his conduct, but those efforts had not resulted in the expected change.
The issue resurfaced in a letter issued on 31 July this year and signed by current Rajshahi University Shibir president Mujahid Faisal. The letter referred to the earlier decisions and instructed members of the organisation not to make either positive or negative comments or reactions regarding Ammaar’s online or offline activities.
It also asked Shibir members to maintain no contact with Ammaar, while allowing elected Racsu office-bearers to retain official communication with him where necessary for their responsibilities. The instruction effectively separated his role as a Racsu office-bearer from his former organisational association with Shibir.
Mehedi Hasan, general secretary of the Rajshahi University Shibir unit, confirmed Ammaar’s previous association with the organisation. He said Shibir’s constitution generally does not provide for making such disciplinary information public after someone is expelled, arguing that individuals can make mistakes.
According to Mehedi, Ammaar became a Sathi of Shibir while studying at Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasa. His organisational affiliation was later transferred to the university unit through its internal system, which led to his involvement with Shibir on the campus.
Mehedi also claimed that Shibir had provided Ammaar with various forms of protection and shelter during the July uprising. He said allegations involving financial irregularities and conduct considered inconsistent with Islamic principles emerged in February 2025. After Ammaar failed to provide what the organisation considered an adequate explanation, he was removed from the position in September, Mehedi said.
He maintained that Ammaar no longer has any organisational connection with Shibir following his removal.
A Shibir leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, also said the three letters were genuine. The leader said Ammaar had previously been involved in Shibir politics but that all organisational communication with him was severed after his removal.
Ammaar, who currently serves as Racsu general secretary, has not publicly responded to the allegations cited in the letters. He was contacted several times for comment, but did not respond.
The documents and statements establish the sequence of Shibir’s internal decisions concerning Ammaar, beginning with the suspension of his organisational position and ending with its cancellation. However, the allegations described in the documents remain claims attributed to the organisation and its representatives; Ammaar’s response to those allegations could not be obtained.
