Mahakhali Attack Leaves Jubo Dal Leader Seriously Injured

A Jubo Dal leader was seriously injured after allegedly being called to a location in Dhaka’s Mahakhali and attacked with sharp weapons on Thursday night.

The injured man, identified as 33-year-old Talha Rahman, serves as the senior joint convener of the Jubo Dal’s Ward 20 unit in Mahakhali. He is the son of Hafizur Rahman and lives in the Rasulbagh area of Mahakhali.

According to Talha’s family, he received a telephone call at around 9.45pm on Thursday (1 October) asking him to come to a particular location in the area. Following the call, he went to a lane between SA Paribahan and the ABM filling station in Mahakhali, within the jurisdiction of Tejgaon Industrial Area police station.

His younger brother, Md Muammar Rahman, alleged that a group of people were already waiting at the location. As soon as Talha arrived, they allegedly attacked him with sharp weapons and repeatedly struck him, causing serious injuries to different parts of his body.

The attackers allegedly left Talha at the scene in a bleeding condition before fleeing the area. His relatives were later informed of the incident and went to the location, where they found him injured and took him to hospital.

Talha was initially taken to Kurmitola General Hospital for medical treatment. According to his family, his condition later deteriorated, prompting doctors and relatives to arrange his transfer to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

He was taken to the hospital at around 12.15am. After receiving treatment there, Talha was subsequently taken back home, where he is currently staying, according to his relatives.

The circumstances behind the assault remain unclear. The family has said it does not yet know who was responsible for the attack or why Talha was called to the location shortly before he was assaulted.

The family has informed the relevant law enforcement authorities about the incident, Muammar said. The identity of the alleged attackers, their motive and the events leading up to the assault have yet to be established.

The account of the incident currently comes from Talha’s family, and the allegations have not been independently verified. No information has been provided in the supplied report about any arrests or formal findings by law enforcement.

The phone call that brought Talha to the lane is likely to be a key part of establishing the sequence of events. Whether the assault was planned in advance, who arranged the meeting and what prompted the attack would need to be determined through an investigation.

For now, Talha is recovering at home following treatment, while questions remain over the identity and motive of those behind the assault.
