The details were disclosed in a press release issued on Friday (2 October) and signed by Mohammad Akter Hossain, deputy commissioner of the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division.
According to the DMP, the operation involved personnel from various police stations, intelligence units and specialised divisions. Mirpur recorded the highest number of arrests, with 118 people taken into custody.
Tejgaon followed with 62 arrests, while 46 people were arrested in Wari. Police also arrested 42 people in Ramna and 41 in Lalbagh.
Elsewhere in the capital, 39 people were arrested in Motijheel, 38 in Uttara and 36 in Gulshan. Five people were arrested by the Detective Branch (DB), while one person was taken into custody by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) division.
Police said the operation resulted in the seizure of a range of drugs and other materials. A total of 386 yaba tablets and 7kg 960g of cannabis were recovered. Officers also seized two switchgear knives, two motorcycles, five mobile phones, one solid-state drive (SSD) card and one laptop.
The DMP said 79 cases had been filed in connection with the operation. Legal proceedings against the arrested individuals were under way at the respective police stations.
The operation was part of the DMP’s wider law-enforcement activities across Dhaka, including efforts to tackle drug-related offences and recover suspected illegal weapons and other materials. Personnel from several units took part in the operation, according to the police statement.
The DMP’s release did not provide individual details of the allegations against each of the 428 people arrested. It also did not specify how the 79 cases were distributed among the different police stations or arrests.
The seized items have been taken into police custody as the relevant legal procedures continue. The arrested individuals will face further action through the applicable legal process, police said.
