The United States is planning to construct a large military base along the Gaza border in Palestine. On Tuesday (11 November), the Israeli investigative media outlet ‘Sharim’ reported that the construction could cost around 500 million USD.
The report stated that the US government intends to deploy over a thousand troops along with heavy weaponry at the base. Iranian media Press TV cited Sharim’s information to report this news. The move has raised concerns in the Middle East, with many suggesting it signals new US aggression in support of Israel.
According to the Israeli media, the US-built base would allow Washington to operate without direct coordination with Israel, enhancing its ability to control the situation independently. Last week, a US delegation reportedly discussed potential locations with the Israeli military.
Analysts note that this plan comes amid heightened global outrage over Israel’s ongoing genocidal campaign in Gaza. They believe Israel is attempting to achieve its objectives through allies to temporarily alleviate international pressure.
Palestinian officials have warned that such a move represents an attempt to replace one occupation with another—essentially substituting Israeli forces with foreign troops. Earlier in November, senior Hamas leader Musa Abu Marzouk al-Jazira stated, “We cannot accept any military force that acts as a substitute for occupying forces in Gaza.”
Previously, the United States proposed a draft resolution to the UN Security Council to form an ‘International Stabilisation Force (ISF)’. The proposed force, led by the US, Turkey, Qatar, and Egypt, would remain in Gaza for at least two years. Critics argue that under the guise of reconstruction and security, the real aim is to disarm Gaza and dismantle its resistance structures. They contend that the plan disregards Israel’s occupation, war crimes accountability, and Palestinians’ rights to self-determination and reparations.
