Bus Set on Fire, Road Block Attempt in Feni

On Wednesday night at around 10 pm, an unidentified group set fire to a passenger bus on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Feni. The bus, operated by Roni-Rana Transport, was parked near Rampur Rural Electrification area in the district’s Sadar Upazila. Local residents quickly extinguished the fire with water, but the front section of the bus was damaged.

Abdul Majid, Senior Station Officer of Feni Fire Service, stated that locals managed to control the fire before fire personnel arrived. Preliminary reports suggest the incident may have been an act of sabotage. Muhammad Samsuzzaman, Officer-in-Charge of Feni Model Police Station, confirmed that authorities are investigating why the bus was parked there and that appropriate legal action will be taken.

Meanwhile, supporters of the banned Awami League participated in protests in Feni, endorsing the party’s online-announced ‘lockdown’ programme. In Fatepur, activists attempted to block the road by setting fire to wood, but left the site within ten minutes. Protesters, wearing masks, chanted slogans against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former MP Nizam Uddin Hazari.

Similar road block attempts were reported on the Feni-Parshuram regional road, with tyres set on fire in front of Chithlia Muktiyoddha Complex at 10 pm. Muhammad Nurul Hakim, Officer-in-Charge of Parshuram Model Police Station, said the unidentified youths fled quickly and no casualties occurred. Law enforcement authorities remain alert in the area.
