In Brahmanbaria, a fire was set on the railway line on Wednesday (12 November) at around 1:45 am. The incident occurred in Dubla area of Sadar Upazila, near the Akhaura-Chinair road. This comes amid nationwide arson and cocktail bomb incidents linked to the banned Awami League’s Thursday (13 November) ‘lockdown’ programme in Dhaka. The railway fire adds to the series of violent acts across the country.
The fire briefly disrupted train services. Two trains heading to Chattogram, Turna Nishita and Bijoy Express, were stopped at Brahmanbaria Railway Station. Train services resumed to normal after approximately half an hour.
Officer-in-Charge of Akhaura Railway Police Station, S. M. Shafiqul Islam, confirmed the incident. He stated that at around 2:45 am, he arrived at the scene with police personnel. The perpetrators set fire to the railway using a plastic pipe and fled before police arrived. Officer Shafiqul Islam added, “The fire was set before police could reach. Train services are now operating normally.”
