Mir Arshadul of the NCP has joined the BNP

Mir Arshadul Haque, former Joint Secretary of the Central Committee of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) and Chief Coordinator of Chattogram Metropolitan, has officially joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

The announcement was made on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 PM, when Mir Arshadul met with BNP’s Acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman, at the party’s Gulshan office. Following the meeting, he submitted his membership and was formally enrolled as a primary member in the presence of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

The occasion was attended by prominent BNP leaders, including Treasurer Rashiduzzaman Millat and Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan.

Mir Arshadul’s departure from the NCP came amidst ongoing discussions between the party and Jamaat-e-Islami regarding political cooperation. On 25 December, he resigned from the NCP to declare his support for BNP’s Acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman.

A well-recognised figure both within the NCP’s central committee and Chattogram city politics, Mir Arshadul has been acknowledged as a popular leader in the region. He previously served as the NCP’s Joint Secretary of the Central Committee and Chief Coordinator for Chattogram Metropolitan. In addition, he was nominated as the NCP candidate for the upcoming national parliamentary election from Chattogram-16 (Banshkhali) constituency.

His shift to BNP marks a significant realignment in local and national politics, particularly in Chattogram, where he has cultivated strong grassroots support. Analysts suggest that this move could strengthen BNP’s position ahead of the next general elections, given Mir Arshadul’s influence in Chattogram-16.
