Shareholders of Meghna Life Insurance PLC have unanimously approved a 15 per cent cash dividend for the 2025 financial year at the insurer’s 30th Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The virtual AGM was held at 11am on Thursday, 20 August, bringing together members of the company’s board, senior management and shareholders to review its performance and consider key corporate decisions.
The meeting was chaired by Meghna Life Insurance Chairman Nizam Uddin Ahmed. Vice Chairman Nasir Uddin Ahmed (Pavel), directors Riaz Uddin Ahmed, Jannatul Ferdous, Md Zahid Anwar Khan, Md Main Uddin, Dilruba Sharmin and Sabita Ferdous also attended, along with other directors and senior officials.
Acting Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Tarek, FCA, was present at the meeting, while Additional Managing Director and Company Secretary Enamul Haque Khan, ACS, conducted the AGM.
Premium income reaches Tk282.66 crore
According to the company’s reported financial figures, Meghna Life Insurance generated total premium income of Tk282.66 crore during 2025. Its total assets stood at Tk1,765.66 crore at the end of the year.
The insurer paid Tk286.78 crore in claims during the same period, reflecting the substantial volume of policy-related obligations settled during the year. The company also reported earnings per share of Tk1.72.
The financial figures formed an important part of the company’s performance review as shareholders considered the proposed dividend and other matters at the AGM.
The approval of the 15 per cent cash dividend provides shareholders with a direct return from the company’s annual performance. The dividend recommendation had previously been made following a decision by the board, with the AGM serving as the forum for shareholders to give their final approval.
Focus on technology and policyholders
Addressing the AGM, Chairman Nizam Uddin Ahmed said Meghna Life would continue to focus on technology-driven initiatives and services designed around the needs of policyholders.
Technology has become increasingly relevant to the insurance sector as insurers seek to make policy administration, customer communication and service delivery more efficient. For life insurers, maintaining accessible and responsive services is particularly important because policies often involve long-term relationships between companies and customers.
Ahmed also expressed appreciation to the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority, the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, the Dhaka Stock Exchange and other regulatory authorities for their support.
He thanked the company’s directors, management, employees, insurance professionals, policyholders and shareholders for their continued cooperation.
Looking ahead, the chairman called on all concerned to work collectively towards achieving Meghna Life’s business objectives for 2026. He also stressed the importance of maintaining the company’s progress while pursuing sustainable growth.
The AGM therefore marked both the formal approval of the 2025 cash dividend and a review of the insurer’s financial position as it begins work towards its objectives for the current year.
