The tragic discovery of a thirty-two-year-old college lecturer has plunged a community in Noakhali into deep shock and mourning. Local residents recovered the lifeless body of Samrat Hossain from a village pond on Monday morning, exactly one day after he had been reported missing. Following notification from locals, law enforcement authorities arrived at the scene, retrieved the remains, and transferred them to Noakhali General Hospital for a comprehensive post-mortem examination.
The grim incident unfolded at approximately 7:00 AM on Monday in the 4th Ward of Rampur Union within Companyganj Upazila, specifically in the pond situated directly in front of the mosque near Maulana Ali Ahmed’s residence. The deceased, Samrat Hossain, was the middle son of Moinul Haque Ratan, a resident of the same locality. Professionally, he served as a lecturer in the Department of Islamic History at West Bank College within the upazila, where he was widely respected by both his students and academic colleagues for his gentle demeanor and dedication to education.
According to accounts shared by family members and close associates, Samrat had been missing since Sunday, prompting frantic searches by relatives who scoured all possible locations without success. His friend, Enamul Haque Monju, revealed that Samrat had contacted him recently regarding a medical consultation. Monju noted that over the preceding week, Samrat had appeared visibly distressed and somewhat melancholic. When family members failed to trace his whereabouts on Sunday, they reached out to Monju, who advised them to lodge a formal general diary at the local police station. Tragically, before formal procedures could be fully processed, his body was spotted floating in the neighborhood pond early Monday morning.
Local union parishad member Md. Enayet expressed profound grief over the untimely demise, describing Samrat as an exceptionally well-behaved and upright young man whose sudden loss has left local residents stunned.
Confirming the details of the operation, Companyganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Nurul Hakim stated that police responded immediately upon receiving the emergency call. The body was successfully recovered and dispatched to the morgue at Noakhali General Hospital for an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death. Authorities have confirmed that a thorough investigation is underway, and necessary legal actions will be initiated in due course based on the forensic findings.
