A rapid flash demonstration featuring black flags was carried out by activists belonging to the Bangladesh Chhatra League in Netrokona’s Purbadhala upazila on Friday morning, briefly halting movement along a regional motorway before participants dispersed.
The unannounced demonstration occurred shortly after quarter to eight in the morning in the busy Hiranpur Bazar commercial area, located along the Netrokona-Mymensingh highway. According to witnesses, dozens of young demonstrators converged on the road, catching local shop owners, traders, and morning commuters completely unaware. Waving black flags and displaying political banners, the group marched along the thoroughfare whilst chanting party slogans. The public gathering lasted merely five minutes before the demonstrators scattered swiftly, fleeing the area using motorbikes, battery-operated easy-bikes, and CNG-run three-wheelers before security units could arrive.
Footage of the demonstration, captured in a one-minute and fifty-three-second video recording, began circulating widely across social media networks, primarily Facebook. The clip depicts over fifty activists marching briskly through the marketplace under the direct leadership of Solaiman Hossain, president of the Purbadhala upazila unit of the student organisation. The video was distributed across digital channels by accounts associated with leaders and activists representing the Awami League, the Chhatra League, and their affiliated wings.
Local residents, speaking on condition of anonymity, noted that the sudden gathering briefly disrupted early morning commercial activities in the market. The swift execution suggested calculated coordination aimed at staging a visible presence before dispersing rapidly to prevent interception by law enforcement personnel.
Police administration confirmed that formal steps are underway in response to the gathering. Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun, Officer-in-Charge of the Purbadhala Police Station, informed journalists that law enforcement had taken cognisance of the unsanctioned procession.
Investigating teams are currently analysing the video footage and speaking with local shopkeepers to establish the identities of everyone who took part in the demonstration. Special police drives have been launched across the upazila to track down and arrest the participants, whilst preparations are being finalised at the local police station to initiate legal proceedings. Security surveillance has also been heightened along key motorway transit points and regional markets to deter further impromptu political demonstrations.
