The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is finalizing preparations for its upcoming board of directors elections, scheduled to take place on 7 June 2026. Following the closure of the official nomination submission window on Friday, the election commission received a total of 33 nomination papers across three structural categories.
A press briefing conducted by Election Returning Officer Mohammad Taherul Huq Chouhan revealed that several key directorships are poised to be settled without a vote. Internal board sources indicated that genuine competitive voting is unlikely to occur in any category, noting that duplicate candidacies in specific regions may serve primarily as a formality to maintain the appearance of an active electoral process.
Distribution of Nominations and Uncontested Seats
The returning officer confirmed that the 33 submitted nominations are divided into 14 papers for Category-1, 18 papers for Category-2, and one single paper for Category-3. In Category-3, Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir, representing Chittagong University, stood as the sole applicant. Provided his documentation contains no administrative errors, he will automatically secure his seat on the board.
In Category-1, which represents the District and Divisional Sports Associations, three divisions are also guaranteed to return unopposed directors. The candidates confirmed to take office without a contest are detailed in the table below:
| Division / Category | Candidate Name | Institutional Representation | Electoral Outcome |
| Category-3 (University) | Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir | Chittagong University | Unopposed Entry |
| Rajshahi Division | Mir Shakrul Alam Shimanto | Bogra District Sports Association | Unopposed Entry |
| Sylhet Division | Abdul Qaiyum Chowdhury | Sylhet Divisional Sports Association | Unopposed Entry |
| Rangpur Division | Mirza Faisal Amin | Thakurgaon District Sports Association | Unopposed Entry |
Multi-Candidate Divisions and Constitutional Clarifications
The remaining regional segments within Category-1 attracted multiple nominees, though final ballot confirmations remain subject to the commission’s verification phase. For the Dhaka Division, which holds two board seats, three candidates filed papers: Sayeed Bin Zaman (Dhaka Divisional Sports Association), SM Abdullah Al Fuad (Jamalpur District Sports Association), and Jasimuddin Khan (Gopalganj District Sports Association).
The Chittagong Division, also allocated two seats, saw filings from former national chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu (Chittagong District Sports Association), Moinuddin Chowdhury (Lakshmipur District Sports Association), and Shariful Islam (Feni District Sports Association). Similarly, Shafiqul Alam, Shantanu Islam, and Mohammad Abdus Salam will vie for the two seats assigned to the Khulna Division. The single directorship for the Barisal Division will see a choice between Muntasir Alam Chowdhury of Bhola and Mizanur Rahman of the Barisal Divisional body.
Concurrently, Category-2, which encompasses club-level representatives, saw 18 nominations enter the formal scrutiny phase. During the press conference, Chouhan addressed queries regarding former player Shahriar Hossain Bidyut, who had initially collected a nomination form. The returning officer clarified that although Bidyut had picked up the paperwork, he ultimately did not submit a formal nomination, as he did not meet the institutional eligibility requirements set out for Category-3 under the current BCB constitution. The verified roster of valid candidates is scheduled for imminent release by the board’s election commission.
