Police Arrest Man Following Alleged Assault In Daudkandi

The law enforcement authorities in Cumilla have arrested an individual accused of attempting to sexually assault a 12-year-old child by enticing the victim with the promise of snacks. The suspect, identified as 43-year-old Delwar Hossain, was apprehended by police officers in the Daudkandi upazila of the district.

According to official police records and statements provided by the victim’s family, the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon. The suspect allegedly lured the young child into his commercial shop by offering to give the victim a packet of crisps. Once the child entered the premises, Hossain reportedly pulled down and locked the shop’s rolling shutter to prevent escape and proceeded with the attempted assault. Local residents noticed the suspicious closure of the shop and intervened by forcing the shutter open, thereby rescuing the child from the scene.

Official Police Action and Legal Proceedings

Following the intervention by local residents, the father of the victim initiated formal legal proceedings against the accused on Monday morning. A case was officially filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at the Daudkandi Model Police Station, outlining the specific events and accusations against the storekeeper.

Following the lodgement of the formal criminal complaint, a police team launched an operation to apprehend the suspect. On Monday afternoon, officers successfully tracked down and arrested Delwar Hossain at the local cattle market located within the Kalasona Bazaar area of the upazila. The operation was executed swiftly to ensure the suspect could not evade justice.

Suspect Identity and Judicial Custody Remand

The arrested individual has been identified by the authorities as the son of the late Abdul Khaleq Bhuiyan. Records indicate that he is a permanent resident of Uttar Baynagar village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Maligaon Union within the Daudkandi upazila.

Following his arrest on Monday afternoon, the police processing was completed rapidly, and the suspect was transported under armed escort to the local court house on Monday evening. The presiding magistrate reviewed the preliminary evidence and police documentation before ordered that the accused be remanded to prison.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Daudkandi Model Police Station, Md. Abdul Bari, officially confirmed the sequence of events and the subsequent judicial actions to the press. The officer stated that the police department took immediate steps upon receiving the family’s complaint, resulting in the successful arrest of Delwar Hossain at the Kalasona cattle market on Monday afternoon. The officer concluded by confirming that the suspect was produced before the court in the evening, which subsequently ordered his transfer directly to prison custody. Investigation into the matter remains ongoing under standard statutory protocols.
